A nursery and community garden has been opened by the Bishop of Bradford, in memory of a children centre’s former caretaker.
The Right Reverend Nick Baines was on hand to open the garden at Mortimer House Children’s Centre in Mortimer Avenue, Bradford Moor.
The garden will be dedicated to Lance Bryan, the centre’s former caretaker and an accomplished woodcarver, who died in 2009.
The garden was built by Bradford Woodworkers with funding from Bradford Children’s Services Quality and Access capital grant.
Cathy Presto, programme manager at the centre, said: “The children in the nursery have been fully involved in the planning of the garden and have also chosen some animal-shaped topiary. One of Lance Bryan’s friends is carving a storytelling chair which will be a lovely feature in the garden.”
