A public exhibition and consultation about building a £5 million train station at Low Moor, Bradford, looks set for September.

The long-term proposals, going back to 2007, were updated in May last year and the site has now been confirmed at Cleckheaton Road, three miles south west of Bradford city centre.

The station will be created in partnership with Metro, Network Rail, Northern Rail and Bradford Council and will be on the line between Bradford Interchange and Halifax stations.

Metro has commissioned the next phase of the station, car park and road design work and it is expected to be included in a public exhibition and consultation in September before a planning application goes before Bradford Council.

Bradford Passenger Consultative Committee, which meets this Friday at City Hall, will hear how the proposed new station will have about 100 car parking spaces and cycle parking.

Platforms will be fully-accessible, there will be CCTV and passenger Help Points, passenger information displays and a public address system, and there will be direct access from the Spen Valley Greenway.

Friday’s meeting will also hear how the sale of rolling stock to a rail leasing company could release “significant” funding for another proposed station at Apperley Bridge.

Money from the sale of Metro’s old Class 155 and Class 144 rolling stock, which will continue to be leased by train operator Northern, will go into the Apperley Bridge and Low Moor station schemes as well as a scheme for Kirkstall Forge.
