A man has been charged with the murder of an 80-year-old widower. Alan Pedder's body was discovered at his Gibson Street home on Saturday by his nephew, who alerted police.
A 44-year-old local man has now been charged with his murder and is due to appear before Leeds Magistrates Court today.
A post mortem examination revealed the victim had received multiple stab wounds. Neighbours have spoken of their shock, describing Mr Pedder as a friendly, gentle man who helped others whenever he could. Officers had been called to the house in Laisterdyke by paramedics at about 10.40am on Saturday.
