Detectives today started a murder inquiry following the death of respected family man Amjad Hussain.

It is understood the 28-year-old restaurant worker, who was found dead at his home in Rylstone Gardens, Undercliffe, yesterday afternoon, had suffered severe neck injuries from a bladed weapon.

His body was found by firefighters in the living room after they were alerted to a blaze by neighbours.

Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, who is leading the investigation, said he believed the victim had been murdered and the fire started to hide evidence.

He said police did not know why Mr Hussain had been killed and urged anyone with any information to ring police on 101, or Crimestopers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
