Students are about to shed more light on the historic Undercliffe Cemetery in Bradford.

Emily Kecic and Gabriella Fawcett, originally from Bradford, are planning to return to illuminate parts of the Victorian burial ground on Thursday, May 19, as part of a theatre course they are studying at York St John University.

They are also inviting people to go along on the night and be illuminated by the live art installation.

Emily said: “We hope to bring the community together and showcase one of Bradford’s most beautiful and yet somewhat forgotten sites.

“We are trying to portray Bradford in a positive light and hope our unique project can make a difference to any negative attitudes towards the city.”

Exact details of the installation are still being decided and Neil McLellan, who is the cemetery registrar, is due to meet the students later week.

He said: “It’s a fantastic idea. I think the plan is to do some kind of trail round the cemetery during twilight to take in a number of our most important monuments and those of particular sculptural interest.

“When you think we have something which is of such importance historically, it’s only right we should celebrate it and highlight it.”
