A single mum is starting a fundraising drive to create a sensory corner for her daughter.

Natalie Lambert is appealing to businesses to help her in her bid to fund the corner, which will enable her to play at home with five-year-old Briany.

The youngster suffers from cerebral palsy and Natalie said she was thrilled to see how well she responded to sensory equipment at Delius School in Barkerend Road, where she is a pupil.

The room has special lighting, wall pads, bubble tubes, disco balls and water-based pads on the floor.

“She loves it and has really come on,” said Miss Lambert, 24, of Undercliffe, Bradford.

“Briany used to make fists of her hands and now she is learning to stretch them out and put her hands on the lights. The room has really stimulated her. She really interacts with the equipment and has started to giggle”

Briany was diagnosed with cerebral palsy aged nine months. “She did not reach the usual milestones such as sitting up, crawling and smiling,” said Miss Lambert. “I had come across the condition before, but didn’t know anything about it. At first I felt very worried and isolated. I didn’t think I would be able to cope.” It has not been easy but she said she has managed.

Miss Lambert aims to raise the £4,000 to pay for the conversion and for equipment, and is appealing to companies in the area to help her. She would like to hold a fundraising event and is appealing for anyone with a suitable location to contact her. She is also appealing for donations.

“I would really appreciate any help,” she said. “When I’m playing with Briany in the sensory room I feel I can really interact with her. I feel more like her mum rather than her carer.”
