Two brothers will be sentenced after they admitted assaulting two men during a feud.

Ednan Bashir, 30, and Israr Bashir, 25, appeared in the dock at Bradford Crown Court yesterday in connection with an incident in Newlands Place, Undercliffe, Bradford, on May 24 last year.

Ednan Bashir, of Fernbank Road, Undercliffe, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Zaffer Yasin.

Israr Bashir, of Beech Grove, Undercliffe, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Yasin’s younger brother, Mohammed Masood Ali, causing him actual bodily harm. His barrister, Shufqat Khan, said the plea was entered on a limited basis, that his involvement was not pre-meditated and that he sustained an injury himself.

Ednan Bashir also pleaded guilty to intending to pervert the course of justice, on February 15 this year, by threatening violence to a witness and offering money with a view to persuading him not to attend court and give evidence.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge James Stewart QC, further remanded the elder brother in custody. He extended the bail of Israr Bashir, with conditions to reside at his home address and not to contact prosecution witnesses.

But Judge Stewart said: “The existence of some sort of feud between these two groups is concerning.

“It must be understood I will reserve any breach of bail to myself and will treat the matter with extreme seriousness.”

He told Israr that by granting bail he was making no promises as to what the sentence would be. He adjourned the case for reports on both defendants.

Mr Yasin suffered a broken shoulder, fractured ankle and cuts and bruises during the incident, in which he is alleged to have been hit with a steering lock and run over by a car. Mr Ali was attacked with a bar and hammer and pepper sprayed in the face.

The incident followed a verbal exchange between the younger victim and a man.
