Jubilee beacon to be lit at Thornton

Thornton is to join the national beacon-lighting celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The beacon – the only one in the Bradford West area – will be lit at 10.10pm on Monday, June 4, in line with national requirements.

It will be lit during celebrations in the village organised by the Thornton Community Partnership and the village Scout group.

The event, funded by the Bradford West Area Co-ordinators Office and backed by the Community Partner-ship, community groups and businesses, has a red, white and blue theme and includes activities on Hill Top recreation ground, organised by Thornton Scout Group.

Events start at 3pm, with performances throughout the day from the Pantonic Steel Youth Orchestra.
