The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor John Godward, visited a community centre to help celebrate the completion of a scheme aimed at getting unemployed residents back to work.

He presented certificates to the 17 participants of the Smile Programme, which included training sessions and help with job applications and CVs.

The 11-week scheme, which was held at The Gateway Community and Children’s Centre in Ravenscliffe, Brad-ford, also included work placements with businesses and organisations in the area.

The project, run by Ravenscliffe and Greengates-Multi Agency Partnership, followed a survey of local businesses which found they had difficulty finding the right employees. Janet McGill, who mentored the participants with Gemma Broadbent, said: “It’s helped build their confidence. We have supported them every step of the way.”

Money for the scheme came from the Working Neighbourhood Fund and NHS Bradford and Airedale.
