A drug dealer, serving a five-year jail sentence, has been given a further 12 months in custody for racially abusing and assaulting other drivers in road rage incidents.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that Naveed Hussain, 29, of Hollings Road, Girlington, Bradford, had been sentenced in January this year for street dealing in heroin and crack cocaine.

He was also given a four-year prison sentence in 2007 for similar offences.

The court heard the road rage incidents happened in July and August last year, in Thornton Road, near to Ingleby Road, and then Canal Road.

In the first incident Hussain swerved his car in front of a van, got out and hurled racial abuse at the driver.

He drove in a similar way in the second incident and confronted the driver, in his late 50s, but this time kicked him in the face as he bent down to pick up his car keys.

Hussain, who pleaded guilty to racially aggravated public order offences and causing actual bodily harm, smirked as he was being sentenced.

Judge Robert Bartfield told him: “Racial abuse – whether it be black on white, or white on black – has no place in our society.

“Nor does road rage, which is a disease of our times. Everybody is sick to death of it.”

The judge said Hussain’s original basis of plea was “a complete lie” and warned: “Putting in a bogus basis of plea is going to cost people in the end.”
