An inner-city farm in Bradford is to receive a share of £422,000 to boost its work with young people in the city whose lives are in danger of going off the rails.
The Prism City Farm, in Girlington, was today named as one of 15 projects to receive money from the Prince’s Countryside Fund.
Tracy Wheatley, development manager at the farm, said it would receive £24,379 to fund a volunteer co-ordinator at the city farm project which helps children who are at risk of being excluded from school or committing crimes.
She said: “We are absolutely delighted because it will enable us to attract volunteers from the local community, especially those who have been long-term unemployed.
“We are going to give them the opportunity to learn new skills, obviously around running a city farm provision, and they will also be able to achieve accreditation in horticulture and land-based diplomas, if they so wish.”
