A “troubled, angry and aggressive young man,” who brandished a knife while a landlord was being threatened, has been jailed for nine months.
Usman Iqbal, 21, of Naples Street, Girlington, Bradford, pleaded guilty, at Bradford Crown Court, to possessing a bladed article and threatening behaviour.
Prosecutor Alesha Kaye said Iqbal accepted brandishing the knife but denied making the threats.
She said Mohammed Hussain was collecting mail from his property in Fairbank Road, Girlington, when he heard stones being thrown and saw three men outside, including the defendant.
The court heard that one shouted: “I’ll kill you.” Iqbal pulled out the knife from his trouser pocket and raised it in the complainant’s direction, according to the prosecutor.
Mr Hussain went inside but, soon after, he went to the local shop and saw the three men again. He contacted police, who saw the men walking in Thornton Road. Iqbal struggled with an officer and was arrested. Police seized a lock knife.
Judge Jonathan Rose told Iqbal: “There was no need to produce the knife at all. The complainant never did anything to you.”
