Judges have reached their verdicts in the Manning-ham and Girlington in Bloom competition.

Overall winners were Abbey Green Nursery and Children’s Centre, in Green Lane, Manningham. Two newcomers to the competition were also winners: Colin Malcolm’s Scotchman Road plot was the best allotment, and Irsad Begum, of Mannheim Road, won best small garden. Other winners included Fazilat Begum, of Farcliffe Place, Manningham Library, Christine Nias, of St Mary’s Road and Farida Jan, of Smith Lane.

The competition is organised by Bradford Comm-unity Environment Project (BCEP).

Judge Mahmood Moham-med was charmed by Abbey Green’s garden. He said: “The garden informs the ethos of the school, and the children get to experience all natural elements there.

“The water feature was unusual and exciting – a waterfall containing fishes they had made themselves, and where they can paddle or fill their watering cans.”

There will be a celebration for the winners in October.
