A Bradford mum has spoken of her devastation after intruders stole £10,000 worth of gold jewellery which she wore at her wedding.

Saimah Iqbal, 21, of Washington Street, Girlington, said the family returned home to find their possessions all over the floor and a kitchen window at the back of the house smashed with a brick.

Gold jewellery including bangles, necklaces, a head dress and her wedding rings had all been taken from a box in her wardrobe.

The jewellery had been given to her when she got married five years ago.

She said: “They had rifled through all my stuff, it was devastating.

“It was such beautiful jewellery and I want to appeal to anybody who can help.

“I think they might try to sell it in jewellers’ around Bradford. We are hoping someone will recognise it.”

Mrs Iqbal has two young children and said her daughter cried when she saw the family’s television in pieces on the floor.

Mrs Iqbal’s mother, Shaheen Iqbal, also appealed to anybody who might be able to help the police investigation to come forward.

She said: “She’s only 21 and she’s just set up home – they couldn’t afford the insurance.

“The community will know something about it but people won’t come forward.

“I want them to see how it has affected her and have sympathy for her. It’s stressful what they are going through. That jewellery will never be replaced.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a burglary and that gold jewellery was taken.”

Anyone who has information about the burglary, which is believed to have taken place on Tuesday at around 8.30pm, is asked to contact Bradford South police on (0845) 6060606.
