A teenager who admitted performing a sex act on himself on a bus has been spared a jail sentence for outraging public indecency.
Magistrates gave Mohammed Khan, 19, of Kensington Street, Girlington, Bradford, a 12 month supervision order when he appeared in court in the city yesterday.
Khan was seen carrying out the act by a woman, 23, on a bus from Bradford Interchange to Keighley in October, magistrates heard.
Prosecutor Vanessa Schofield said he sat alone before moving to sit next to the woman, who was reading a book. She heard Khan muttering and then saw him touch himself inside his trousers, the court heard.
Representing Khan, solicitor Sarah Guttman said her client suffered from mental health and was unable to explain his actions.
He had not committed this offence before, she said.
Bench chairman Nancy Crowther, who also ordered Khan to pay £85 to cover the costs of the case, told him: “You will be given a supervising officer and you will go very regularly to meet with that officer and you will get to know them and talk about any problems you may have.”
