School pupils and visitors to a community centre will benefit from outdoor improvements carried out by a team of volunteers.
Armed with shovels and wellies, staff from Bradford-based Yorkshire Water brightened up a raised garden area with plants and vegetables at Frizinghall+Primary">Frizinghall Primary School, Bradford.
They created a new mini-beast area for pupils to study insects and dug in over the road, creating a wildlife and vegetable garden at Frizinghall Community Centre.
Two large planting beds were filled with herbs and vegetables to help people grow their own produce.
Yorkshire Water staff volunteered through the firm’s One Million Green Fingers campaign to create sustainable gardens at 350 schools in Yorkshire by 2010.
Challenge leader Abigail Singh said: “The new areas that we have created will provide a safe environment for a variety of people to use.
“It is important that people have access to these types of areas where they can really get stuck into learning about healthy eating, sustainability, water conservation and the environment.”
