Rugby-playing Police Community Support Officer Charlene Henegan is taking time off the beat to play for her country.

PSCO Henegan, 21, who is based in Shipley and patrols Heaton and Frizinghall, was picked on the wing for the England Women’s Rugby League team to face France in a two-Test series which starts on Saturday, July 25. She has been playing for seven years and turns out for Bradford Thunderbirds in the national women’s league.

She said: “I was overwhelmed when I found I was playing. I wasn’t expecting it. I can’t wait to get the England shirt on.”

PCSO Henegan started playing rugby league for Bradford Bulls girls before joining Victoria Rangers and then the Thunderbirdsa.

Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Steve Greenbank said: “We’re really proud of her achievement and will be watching her on the TV.”
