A 28-year-old man was committed to Bradford Crown Court by magistrates in Bingley yesterday, charged with wounding a man who last night remained in a critical condition in hospital.

Stephen Milburn appeared handcuffed in the dock from custody having been arrested on Sunday following an incident in Ash Grove, Eccleshill, in which Karl West, a 30-year-old father-of-two, suffered extensive injuries.

Milburn, of Coventry Street, East Bowling, Bradford, has been charged with wounding Mr West with intent.

He was remanded in custody and told by magistrates he must appear at the higher court on Wednesday, April 27.

There was no application for bail.

Prosecutor Paul Ramsay told the court: “The assault caused the victim serious injuries.

“The victim remains under strict observation regarding his injuries, which are numerous.”

The Telegraph & Argus reported on Monday an incident in which a 30-year-old man was critical in hospital following a disturbance in Ash Grove, Eccleshill, at 3am on Sunday.

Mr West was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary before being transferred to a specialist unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

Mr West’s stepfather David Smith said: “We’ve been there, me and his mum, all the family.

Mr West has two young sons Charli, five, and six-year-old Harvi.

“He’s fighting for his life and we’re all there for him,” said Mr Smith.
