A new parents group has been formed to take on the fight for a new secondary school for Birkenshaw, Birstall, Gomersal and East Bierley. The BBG Parents’ Alliance consists of parents from the communities who were angered when Kirklees Council chose not to pursue a new secondary school in their areas as part of its Building Schools for the Future programme.

The Alliance is applying to the Government for funding as it develops plans to establish a school in Birkenshaw.

Lesley Surman, Alliance spokesman, said: “We have accepted that Kirklees Council has chosen to ignore the needs of our community, but we will not give up on the needs of our children.”
