A popular pianist who played the pubs and clubs of Bradford for three decades has died, aged 60.

Gabriel Scarry, who was blind from birth, was a regular at the Cock and Bottle, Barkerend Road, and the Bentleys Arms, in Great Horton Road.

“From the age of 18 he was playing in the pubs in Bradford,” said his brother Bernard Scarry. “He had a stroke six or seven years ago and that is when he stopped. He played in the local pubs and clubs for 30 years.”

Mr Scarry died after a short illness, his brother said. He had no children of his own but was a member of a large family as one of ten siblings.

I used to play football for the **** and bottle years ago, as we were having a post match pint, or six, he used to be coming in, led by his brother or friend, to set up for the Saturday singalong.

RIP Gabe

I used to live in the **** and bottle in the late 70s and 80s and used to love listening to Gabe play the piano and he was the life and soul of the function room. R.I.P. Gabe xxx

Mr.John Dunn says
I am truly sorry to hear about Uncle Gabriel
Though it as been a number of years since I had seen him last and listened to him play the piano, I can still remember what a great time it was.I remember as a boy with my mom and dad at the club on a Saturday night with all the family singing and laughing. These were some of my best memories of England after being in Canada for the last 46 years. I know that my mom Gabriels sister (Lily) loved him and will have greeted him in heaven

God Bless
