Governors of a Bingley secondary school have decided to break away from the control of Bradford Council.
Beckfoot School will now begin the process of conversion to academy status.
The decision was unanimously supported by governors.
Reacting to the decision, head teacher David Horn said: “The governors thankfully have given us a clear decision which allows us to move forward without any degree of ambiguity.
“We are lucky to have a high quality group of governors. They have recognised the need to get this decision right and have insisted that the process of consultation was thorough and all dimensions of the debate had been explored prior to this decision being made.”
