Former glamour model Jodie Marsh may have hit the headlines this week when she unveiled her new muscular physique during a bodybuilding competition, but she was outshone in the contest by a woman from the Bradford district.

Bingley bodybuilder Anna Millington was crowned overall Miss Physique 2011 during a competition that attracted massive media attention during Miss Marsh’s presence.

Miss Millington, a 37-year-old former Keighley firefighter, who lives in Eldwick, won the title during the Natural Physique Association’s (NPA) Mike Williams Classic in Sheffield on Saturday.

Miss Millington topped the heavyweight class in the natural bodybuilding competition before going up against five-times world champion and winner of the lightweight class Carol Streeter. She will now progress to the NPA British Championships, being held in Bedworth on October 23.

Meanwhile, Miss Marsh was placed fifth in the lightweight class.

Miss Millington said: “I am absolutely ecstatic. It was a really big win for me, especially to beat Carol Streeter. I feel really good and my condition is improving all the time.”

Miss Millington also won the UK Drug Free Bodybuilding Association (UKDFBA) UK Championships last month.

Following her success this year, Miss Millington has been invited by the UKDFBA to join the British team at the World National Body Building Federation Championships in New York in November. The mum-of-one must now find more than £1,500 to pay for flights, hotels and other expenses. She is appealing for a sponsor to help fund her trip.

“It is the biggest competition for natural bodybuilding in the world,” she said. “It is by invitation only and I feel very honoured to have been asked to take part in the first place. It is un-funded but knew I couldn’t turn down such a big opportunity.”
