An East Morton woman is to be Bingley Show’s first female president.

Farmer’s wife Marion Walker, a mother of two, will take up the role next year.

Mrs Walker, of Moorlands Farm, has headed the show’s handicraft section for 20 years.

She said: “I am extremely honoured to be next year’s president and to be the first lady president is even more of an honour.

“Usually, the president’s wife has duties to perform, including judging the vintage cars, so I don’t know if my husband will have to take on those duties!”

To help raise money for her selected charity, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Mrs Walker is set to produce cookbooks which will incorporate her “family favourite” recipes.

She chose the charity after experiencing its life-saving service first hand when her son’s girlfriend broke her back in a riding accident and was flown to hospital by the air ambulance.

Additions to this year’s competitions include a cake baked with two Fairtrade ingredients and “something new made from something old”.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Mrs Walker’s cook book can contact her on 01274 563907.

Bingley Show is on August 10.
