Studio is music to Bradford groups' ears

Award-winning youth enterprise Waxworks Music Initiative is nearing the completion of its new studio, which is due to open next month and is aimed at putting Bradford firmly on the music map.

The studio, funded by Connexions, will contain the latest cutting-edge technologies.

Industry leaders including Roland, Stanton, Focusrite, Wharfedale, Soundcraft and Audio Technica have provided their support for the new studio, which will be situated in Brearton Street, off Manningham Lane, Bradford.

Co-director Ed Williams said: “The support we have gained from the private sector has been instrumental in developing the project.

“They have helped us to create a pioneering new studio, with state-of-the art technologies across several disciplines, from music production to recording and engineering.

“These resources are unrivalled in the North of England – it’s a real boost to Bradford, in particular the city’s urban music community.”

Co-director Nick Merrick said: “Some said we would never get Waxworks off the ground when we started the project – now five years on, we have more than doubled the size and we intend to keep growing.

“The demand for our service is huge, we see increasing numbers of young people benefiting from our provision on a daily basis. We are eternally grateful to all involved. It’s an exciting time and we are really looking forward to the launch next month.”

This year will see a variety of music programmes devised by the young people attending to ensure Waxworks continues to offer meaningful and relevant opportunities for its users and partner organisations.
