THE glorious sunshine the Bradford district has been basking in in recent days could come to an abrupt halt later today.

A yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office, which will be in place from 4pm today until 3am on Sunday.

The warning states thunderstorms are expected to roll in this evening, bringing with it the chance of some flooding to homes and businesses.

There is also the chance of damage to buildings and structures due to flooding and also lightning strikes, which could lead to a loss of power and other services.

Driving conditions could also become hazardous due to spray, standing water and possibly hail, which will affect journey times on the roads, and trains may also be delayed.

The Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said: "Thunderstorms are expected to start breaking out from late Saturday afternoon over North Wales and will then become more widespread over northern England on Saturday evening.

"These will move north-eastwards overnight, clearing during the early hours of Sunday.

"Whilst some places will miss these storms and remain dry, where they do occur some heavy rain and lightning is anticipated and in a few places, there may also be hail and gusty winds.

"Between 15 and 20 millimetres rain may fall in a relatively short space of time with a few spots seeing close to 30mm of rain."
