THE annual St George’s Day scout parade will be led by a special guest tomorrow, a six-year-old boy who is battling a rare heart condition.

Jaxon Green-Moore, from Queensbury, has been invited by the Scouts to lead the parade as it marches from Bradford Cathedral to Centenary Square.

He has been invited as an ambassador of Heart Research UK, a West Yorkshire-based charity which is the chosen charity of the scout groups.

Jaxon will lead the Scouts, Beavers and Cubs section and will also be carrying the flag for the group.

The six-year-old was born with LEOPARD Syndrome, a rare condition which affects the skin, face and heart.

As a result, Jaxon suffers from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the muscles in the heart wall become thick and stiff, and pulmonary stenosis, a narrowing of the pulmonary valve which pumps blood from the heart to the lungs.

There are only 200 across the world who are known to suffer from the condition.

A spokesperson for Heart Research UK said the District Commissioner for Bradford South Scouts, Alison Walton, got in touch with Heart Research UK to organise a bucket collection in each section, and Jaxon’s section also got in touch to ask if Jaxon could carry the flag.

He added that rehearsals have been taking place, and Jaxon is “very excited” to take part in the parade.

Barbara Harpham, chief executive at Heart Research UK, said “We’re so proud that our little star Jaxon is carrying the flag today.

“He’s been an inspiration to other youngsters with heart problems.

“We’re really grateful that he encouraged beavers, cubs and scouts to support heart research. Everything raised will be spent in Bradford to help people live healthier, happier and longer lives.”

This will not be the first time Jaxon, a pupil at Northowram Primary School, has found himself in the spotlight, as at Christmas he was the face of Heart Research UK’s Sing for your Heart campaign, which urged people to upload videos to social media of them singing, donating money, and nominating others to do the same.

The campaign received widespread support, with celebrities such as Boyzone, Piers Morgan, and star of the Bradford pantomime later this year Christopher Biggins all uploading videos in support.

The annual Bradford St George’s Day Scout Parade will take place in the city centre on Sunday.

It will march from Centenary Square to Bradford Cathedral in Stott Hill for the St George’s Day service at 12.30pm, before heading back to Centenary Square at around 1.15pm, for the Lord Mayor’s salute, which will be performed by the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Abid Hussain, at 1.40pm.

Scout parades will also be taking place in Keighley on Sunday to mark St George’s Day.
