A PET parrot has been stolen in a house burglary.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for information to help reunite the 10-year-old African Grey, named Barney, with his family, following the burglary on Thursday, august 17.

Suspects are believed to have gained entry to the property in Cleckheaton Road, Bradford, between 8.30am and 1.30pm.

A police spokesman said items stolen included a laptop, PlayStation console, lawn mower and strimmer.

However, the family were more distraught to discover that their beloved pet Barney had been taken during the incident.

He was taken along with a bag of his food.

The parrot's cage could not be taken due to its size and it’s believed that the suspects may have used a hessian bag or large box to transport him.

Detective Constable Sarah Hamer of Bradford CID who is investigating the burglary said: “Any burglary is devastating for the victim, but in this case it’s even more upsetting for the family with Barney also being taken.

“Barney does speak, and it’s likely he will be making a lot of noise wherever he is being kept.

"We want to re-unite Barney with his owners. Anyone who was in the area on Thursday morning who has seen anyone acting suspiciously or who has any information should come forward.

"Equally anyone who may have seen a parrot like Barney for sale or who has been invited to buy a parrot like him should get in touch.”

Anyone with any information about the burglary, or where Barney may be is asked to contact DC Hamer at Bradford CID via 101 quoting log reference 13170379673.
