A CIVIC reception has been held in Bradford City Hall to mark a photographic gallery’s 10th year in the city.

Impressions Gallery moved from York, where it was set up in 1972, to its purpose built gallery in City Park in 2007, and yesterday marked its first decade in the city.

Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Abid Hussain had arranged the reception, which was attended by staff at the gallery as well as people who had supported it, taken part in exhibitions and visited over the years.

There were talks by gallery director Anne McNeill, chair of trustees Mark Suggitt and Pete Massey, director of Arts Council North.

Impressions attracts around 55,000 visitors a year, and each year hosts several top national exhibitions. When it opened it was the first purpose built public funded photography gallery in the UK.

Later in the day there were celebratory events in the gallery, and then The Bradford Club, which has been turned into a pop up art gallery featuring images that have been displayed through the gallery’s 10 years in Bradford.
