STAFF and pupils at a school in Allerton are celebrating after it was given a "good" rating by inspectors for the first time.

Ley Top Primary School was judged to be good in all areas, an improvement from its last inspection two years ago when it was judged to "require improvement."

The school has never been able to achieve an overall good rating since Ofsted began in 1992.

In the recently released report the inspectors found that “teaching and outcomes have improved and are now good.

“The teaching of writing is a strength, particularly in upper Key Stage 2 where pupils are given effective feedback that helps them to improve the content of their writing.”

"The headteacher’s determination and commitment have successfully created a unified staff team. From their differing starting points pupils make good progress and attainment is rising.

"A recent focus on mathematics has helped all groups of pupils to increase their enthusiasm for, and confidence in, mathematics."

Sandra Rouse, who has only been Headteacher since 2013, said: “We are delighted with this latest report as it shows that Ofsted sees the school as we do.

“This has been a combined effort and pupils, staff, parents, governors and members of the wider community have all worked extremely hard to achieve this accolade.”

Coun Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Education, Employment and Skills, said: “This is excellent news for Ley Top Primary. All those who have worked so hard to bring about this positive outcome should be very proud.”
