Six paintings by Bingley artist Jane Fielder are on show in Ripon Cathedral, as part of the Great North Art Show.

Three of them are ‘Janescapes’, the other three are large abstracts.

Jane, who said she was “thrilled” to be invited to exhibit along with 22 other artists, is preparing for another show at her own Bingley Gallery at 29A Park Road, Bingley.

Next week, 21 new pictures by the prolific artist can be seen by the public, among them Sweet Music, Bingley; 118,000 Offices to Let; A Magical Place, Bradford; and Sorry, I Had to Squeeze the Bank.

“I really loved painting those four,” she said.

Jane’s landscapes have never been strictly representational; she has always moved buildings and bits of landscape about to suit her composition.

In the new pictures she has turned buildings on their side. Nevertheless the spirit of place, usually Bingley, from which she derives both inspiration and happiness is evident.

In a note to her new show, Jane says: “On a bright day, I can look across the never ending rows of terraces with their chimneys casting black shadows, echoed by the vast mill chimneys, highlighted only by rows of billowing washing and bras the size of windows, and think it is the most beautiful place in the world.”

New Janescapes can be seen from September 9 to October 10. The Bingley Gallery is open Thursday to Friday from noon to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Also on show at the gallery during that time will be prints made by Irish artist Rachel Shearwood
