Firefighters believe a blaze at a Baildon house was started when a dog accidentally switched on a cooker.
The owner had placed a bin on top of the cooker to stop the dog raiding the contents while she was out.
But the dog climbed on top of the cooker and turned the dial, setting the bin on fire.
There was a small amount of smoke damage to the kitchen of the house, in Springfield Road. The dog was unharmed.
Firefighters were alerted by a smoke alarm at around 3.30pm yesterday.
A spokesman for the fire crew said: "I cannot stress enough the importance of smoke alarms. If she'd not had them fitted it could have been a different story."
