Harden pupil and Cullingworth teacher hit

Two more schools have reported cases of swine flu.

One is at Harden Primary School and the other at Parkside School, Cullingworth.

Harden head teacher John Davie said the case at his school which involves a pupil was a minor one and that the child was being treated at home. He added: “We’ve issued guidelines to all our parents. We always follow Council and Health Protection Agency advice.”

He confirmed the school would be remaining open.

At Parkside, a part-time sports teacher who attends once a week was confirmed as having caught the illness. He has been advised to stay off for the rest of term.

Head teacher Dr Tony Rickwood said: “We did have quite a lot of concern from parents this morning.

“I did meet with a small group of them and I think they went away reassured that we are being as pro-active as we can be.”

Sue Colman, Bradford Council’s assistant director for services to children and young people, said: “We have been advised that schools should not close because of individual cases of swine flu.”

Parents are advised to see their GP or ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for advice.
