ACTON Parkway, Cowgill and Karolina Falls were among the 17 layouts on display at the Shipley model railway exhibition this weekend.

The show is now in its 36th year and for 31 of those it has been run by John Anderton, of the Shipley Model Railway Society.

"It is now recognised as one of the best in the country and we have people travelling from as far as Scotland and Brighton for it," Mr Anderton said.

"When I started out people would say: "where's Shipley?"

"Now everyone knows us and the serious modellers all say the same thing, that it's such a friendly show."

But the main draw for dedicated fans is the wide range of specialist trade stands as well as the meticulously constructed layouts.

One new work in progress is posing trickier than most as the society is struggling to find photos of Clayton station in the 1920s and 30s.

"That's the era we focus on and we'd like to appeal to anyone with photos of the station or the landscape to get in touch," Mr Anderton said.

Some 2,000 visitors walked through the doors at Baildon Recreation Centre with a mix of families, children and expert modellers.

"We try to get youngsters involved and have an Island of Sodor layout where children can drive four engines about for a £1 donation which goes to the Martin House Hospice," Mr Anderton said.

"The weekend has been great success and numbers are also up on last year."

The club has 51 members and meets on Tuesdays at Baildon recreation centre.
