Bingley-based charity appeals for more to go to ball

A charity supporting British soldiers needs support of its own if its first charity ball is to be a success.

Support Our Soldiers founder and Bingley mum Karen Webster has 100 more tickets to sell before the big night this month.

Already 150 have been sold at £50 per head but Mrs Webster is appealing for more businesses and organisations to snap up tickets and show their pride in the British forces.

Conservative leader David Cameron has pledged his support by donating a signed bottle of House of Commons whisky.

Mrs Webster said: “We’re counting on people’s support to make our first attempt at a charity ball a success.

“Everything is booked – a Champagne reception, three-course meal, dance band and brilliant raffle. It will be a great night. We just need to get all the tickets sold. We are hoping businesses or organisations in particular will book tables.”

Tables of ten cost £450 and can be booked by calling the Support Our Soldiers headquarters on (01274) 270399 or at supportoursoldiers.co.uk.

A senior army officer recently returned from Afghanistan will be the night’s speaker, giving a first-hand account of the life of serving soldiers there.

Each week the Bingley-based charity receives letters of thanks from troops for the parcels it sends. More than 70,000 have been dispatched. The charity also gets groups for families of serving soldiers together.

The Support Our Soldiers’ charity ball is on Saturday, March 20, at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds starting at 7pm.

Dance music will be provided by former members of the Royal Marines Band.

How about the local Bingley Councillors putting their hands in their own pockets and buy tickets for this worth while cause.
