Nab Wood School, Cottingley, has become the first Co-operative Trust School in West Yorkshire.
A plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion yesterday and Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families Ed Balls sent a message of congratulations to the school.
As a Trust school a forum of students, teachers, parents and employers will help to run it alongside a partnership which includes Bradford University and Suma, a West Yorkshire health food co-operative.
Russell Gill, head of membership at the Co-operative Group, said: “The co-operative model allows all stakeholders greater participation in the running of the school and our values, that date back more than 150 years, offer schools an ethos which we believe can lead to higher standards, aspirations and achievements.”
Nab Wood head teacher Elaine Shoesmith said the Trust status would help the school enhance its educational experience and help raise achievement.
