Celebrated punk rock band The Undertones will headline a free night at the Bingley Music Live festival this September.
The band, whose hits include Jimmy Jimmy, My Perfect Cousin and Teenage Kicks, will perform at the festival’s opening night on Friday, September 4. They will be supported by Toploader and Bradford U2 tribute band New 2.
The full line-up for Bingley Music Live – including the Sunday headliner – will be revealed tomorrow.
Acts already confirmed for the event, which will run from September 4 to 6 at Myrtle Park, include: the Doves, The Zutons, Calvin Harris, The Futureheads, VV Brown and The Sunshine Underground.
Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment and culture, said: “There is something for everyone to enjoy over the Bingley Music Live weekend.”
The Undertones formed in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in 1975 and rel-eased four studio albums before disbanding in 1983.
The band reformed in 1999 with Paul McLoone replacing original front man Feargal Sharkey.
They released an acclaimed album of new material, Get What You Need, in 2003.
Eight local bands will compete for the chance to perform at the festival at two live finals next month. Four bands will compete at each final with two bands from each going on to perform.
The bands are: The Little Black Hearts, Spike Island, Vandal Supreme, Meet Me in Vegas, Just Defy, Disco Machine Gun, Black Feathered Feet and Analog Bombs.
The finals will be held at Shipley’s PM bar on July 5 and 12. They will start at 8pm, with doors open at 6pm. Admission is £5.
