TICKETS for this summer’s Bingley Music Live festival are selling at a faster rate than ever before - with three quarters of tickets already sold.

The line up was announced on March 29, when it was revealed the Myrtle Park Festival would feature a headline slot by Oasis legend Noel Gallagher and his band High Flying Birds.

Since then organisers have seen the best ticket sales in the festival’s history.

Other headliners this year include indie heroes Shed Seven, who also topped the bill in 2014, and Jake Bugg, who returns to the festival as a top music superstar after previously playing a relatively lowly spot in 2012, just before he hit the big time.

Other acts include Bingley’s own Marmozets, former Sex Pistol John Lydon, who will bring his post-punk project Public Image Ltd to the main stage, indie rockers Peace and 1998 Mercury Prize winners Gomez.

Indie-veterans The Cribs, who last year released their eighth album and are a cult favourite among indie music fans, will be playing.

Ride, who started out in the 1980s before returning to the airwaves last year, will also be performing.

More acts will be announced later this month.

In recent years doubts have been raised about the future of the festival, which is subsidised by Bradford Council. There had been suggestions that the council would have to consider ditching it in future if it didn’t break even.

In 2017 the festival saw bands including Manic Street Preachers and the Kaiser Chiefs playing to sold out crowds, securing the festival’s immediate future.

Organisers have now urged people not to leave it too late to get tickets, as weekend tickets have already reached the 9,000 sales mark.

In the run up to the lineup announcement, organisers had teased a “game changing” headliner, and say Noel Gallagher’s star power was likely a motivation for many fans to snap up tickets quickly.

Oasis have sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide, and since breaking up Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have had a string of number one albums.

Their most recent, Who Built The Moon, was released in November and became Gallagher’s 10th number one studio album.

Organisers say more acts are set to join the 2018 bill, and a second line-up announcement will be made on the 26 April at 5pm.

Phil Barker, Assistant Director of Sport and Culture at Bradford Council, said: “This year’s line up is so strong, it’s not surprising that ticket sales have been going so well and it looks like it won’t take long for them all to go.

“People really need to get their tickets sorted soon to avoid disappointment. We’ve got a payment plan in place so people can spread the cost.”
