BAILDON teenager Holly Buchan will be selling handmade festive treats to raise funds for an aid work project in South Africa.

Holly, 17, has been selected to spend a year helping children living in care in poverty-hit communities through educational charity Project Trust.

She is one of 300 young people selected after attending a selection course on the isle of Coll in Scotland, involving a series of challenges. Now she’s trying to raise £6,200 for the trip and has so far raised £3,800.

She will be selling gifts at Baildon at Christmas at the Moravian Hall in the village on Sunday, December 3, from 11am to 4pm.

“I’ll be selling Christmas cards, treats and decorations, friendship bracelets I’ve made in South African rainbow colours, and home-made chutney,” she said.

“Learning about people in communities where Project Trust works has made me appreciate what I have.

" A lot of young people out there are vulnerable and affected by issues such as HIV and AIDS, and gang violence. I want to make a difference to those who’ve grown up in care.”
