AN artist has drawn inspiration from Saltaire for an exhibition to close the 30th anniversary celebrations of its mill’s rebirth.

Kitty North has spent the last 12 months researching and painting 5ft by 6ft wide canvasses for her exhibition, Daring to Dream, which opens in gallery two and Salts Diner at Salts Mill today.

The display, which runs until April next year, has been commissioned by Salts Mill as the finale to the 30th anniversary since it was taken over by Jonathan Silver.

The 29 colourful acrylic paintings feature Saltaire during the 1860s and also modern day, with employees of firms based at the mill.

Another painting features a meeting between Sir Titus Salt and Mr Silver.

Miss North said: “It’s a massive honour and a privilege to be the last exhibition of the anniversary. It feels like a special moment for me.

“Salts Mill is iconic and under the custodianship of the Silvers it has had a remarkable reawakening.

“My work aims to capture the essence of the transformation of this legendary landmark.”
