BRICKS and Mortar: Yorkshire buildings is the theme for the latest big screen exhibition of work from local artists.

The regular Not Just Hockney presentation on City Park’s screen was updated earlier this week.

Work from six artists is being displayed for two months as part of the ongoing project to promote the work of local artists. Arts enthusiast Colin Neville is behind the project and the Not Just Hockney website, which is going from strength to strength. Now in its second year, the website displays the work of more than 300 artists.

The exhibition for November and December features an array of recognisable buildings from across the county and includes the mediums of photography, painting and photography.

Mr Neville told the Telegraph & Argus: “The six local artists featured present their own interpretations on a range of Yorkshire buildings, from iconic and recognisable local architecture - like the Bradford Alhambra and Salts Mill - to Yorkshire domestic and industrial scenes, including blast furnaces, abandoned mills and the last glimpse of the Bradford & Bingley Building Society offices in Bingley as they were demolished.

“The featured artists include painters, printmakers and photographers, and between them they capture both the continuity and changing architectural face of the district and region.

“Skilled artists like these can often find and present beauty in scenes most of us wouldn’t look twice at, and their artwork images will also be an important social record for the future, reminding future generations what their towns and cities were like in the past.”

The ongoing exhibition is supported by Bradford UNESCO City of Film, which runs the Big Screen.

This month’s featured artists are: Jake Attree, Clare Caulfield, Ann Davies, Jane Fielder, June Russell and Simon Sugden.

Painter Jake Attree, was born in York, but now lives in Saltaire and has a studio at Dean Clough, Halifax.

His acclaimed work has been exhibited at solo shows across Britain, including at Cartwright Hall, Bradford, and internationally in Holland, Germany and the USA.

Jake’s artwork can be found in British public art galleries, including at York, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, and Sheffield.

Clare Caulfield is an artist and printmaker, based in Saltaire.

Clare’s extensive travels have influenced her choice of architectural subjects and she produces mixed-media paintings, original handmade and limited edition prints and art cards.

Clare’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the UK in both solo and group shows, and is also reproduced on an international brand T-Shirt.

The work of Saltaire artist, Ann Davies, is inspired by architectural detail and natural forms.

She uses a range of art media, but particularly watercolour painting and pen and ink drawing.

Her work has been exhibited widely across the region and elsewhere, and in 2016 she had a painting accepted by the Royal Watercolour Society for an exhibition at the Bankside Gallery, London.

The artist, Jane Fielder, is the owner of The Bingley Gallery, at Bingley.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries across the UK and overseas, including solo exhibitions at Bradford Cathedral and in Shanghai.

Two of Jane’s paintings were shortlisted for a Sunday Times watercolour competition, and a novel by author Sophie Hannah, ‘The Other Half Lives’, was inspired by and dedicated to Jane and her work.

June Russell is a Bradford artist and printmaker with a studio at the South Square Art Centre, Thornton.

Her subject range is broad, including urban, rural, industrial and domestic scenes.

Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Britain, including at the York City Art Gallery, the International Printmakers Competition, and locally at venues including Cartwright Hall, Bradford College, and Bradford Industrial Museum.

Simon Sugden is a photographer from Shipley, specialising in architectural photographs.

He has a particular interest in documenting Bradford buildings and other industrial features of the city, including the restoration of iconic local architecture, such as the Bradford Odeon.

Simon was a prize-winner in the 2015 Drawn by Light photographic competition, organised by the National Media Museum and Royal Photographic Society.

The Not Just Hockney exhibition runs every day at 12.30pm on Bradford’s big screen. For more information visit notjusthockney.info.
