A SHIPPING container used as a base for children's activities in a Bradford park may become a pilot scheme for other area.

The container, in Windhill Wildlife Park, off Church Street, Wrose, aimed at youngsters aged between five and 18, has been officially opened.

Group's including Bradford-based young people's charity e:merge; Eccleshill's Big Swing adventure playground and the One in a Million charity, who form part of the Shipley Youth Forum, will store children's play and sports equipment in the container.

It will also be used as an indoor space for groups, including as a forest school.

Bradford Council gave the plan the green light in July this year.

The shipping container was officially opened on Wednesday, October 25, by Bradford Council leader, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, who is also a cllr for Windhill and Wrose.

James Stannett, e:merge's community and schools worker, said: "This could be the start of a really good pilot for other communities to use across the Bradford district.

"It is there for the long term. We want to get children using it for the next 15 to 20 years."

Michaela Firth, Big Swing's outreach project co-ordinator, said: "There are a few groups that are going to use it and we do sessions there already.

"The shipping container will also be available for hire."
