VOLUNTEERS helped rescue a woman today after she fell and dislocated her shoulder on moorland near Oxenhope.

A 22-strong team from Calder Valley Search & Rescue turned out after being alerted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which had requested help to locate the woman.

Within 35 minutes, the casualty – who had fallen whilst out walking – was found close to Thornton Moor Reservoir, between Oxenhope and Denholme.

She was given pain relief and stretchered for about one-and-a-half miles off the moors.

"Our doctors smoothly 'relocated' the shoulder before handing over the lady to the ambulance crew for her onward journey to hospital," said a spokesman for Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team.

The team, which was called out at 10.46am, was at the scene for more than two hours.
