FINAL preparations are being made for this year’s Saltaire Festival.

A host of activities, attractions, and workshops will be taking place from September 8 to 17.

Events include live music, dance, exhibitions, markets, and children’s activities. Various locations in the UNESCO World Heritage Site will be used during the festival, including Roberts Park, Salts Mill, and Victoria Hall.

The fair will begin with a preview of resident artist Kay Andrews’ exhibition at Saltaire United Reformed Church from 7pm, along with food and drink and live music.

Also taking place on Friday, and Saturday, is the Saltaire Inspired Makers’ Fair in Victoria Hall.

Gillian Allmark, of Saltaire Inspired, said it will be the first opening of the fair on Friday.

She said: “We always run on the opening weekend and have got 46 exhibitors selling a range of goods.

“This is the first time we have done it on the Friday and we will also have some live music at the fair.

“It is always a popular event that is well attended, and we are hopeful some of the exhibitors will be holding demonstrations too so people can see how their items are made and even have a go themselves.”

The fair will run from 4pm to 8pm on Friday and all day Saturday.

Taking place at Exhibition Hall on the opening weekend is West Yorkshire Organic Group’s fruit, flower and vegetable show from 10am on Saturday, where there will be a large variety of entries on show and also a wide selection of products to buy.

Elsewhere, at Salts Mills there is a special show marking David Hockney’s 80th birthday which will run throughout the entire festival, a photographic and poetry exhibition from Ian Beesley and Ian McMillan, and a children’s art exhibition.

Saltaire Brewery holds a beer festival on Friday and Saturday at the Brewery Tap in Dockfield Road, Shipley.

Tickets for Friday are sold out, while entry on Saturday is £5 on the door and is first come, first served.

Around the village a range of events will be taking place in open houses, including live music, and food and art sales. The sculpture trail and open gardens will also be taking place.

In Roberts Park, a range of children’s activities will be taking place from 11am each day, and there will be live music at the bandstand at 1.30pm on Sunday.
