A CHOCOLATE-flavoured beer proved the best of British by claiming an award.
Saltaire Brewery’s Triple Chocoholic won the gold prize in the speciality category of the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Champion Beer of Britain award.
The company’s stout, which is available in shops including Marks & Spencer and Waitrose, beat off competition from Blackedge’s Black Port Porter, based in Greater Manchester, and Cromarty’s Red Rocker, based in the Scottish Highlands, who both won silver awards.
Saltaire Brewery’s award comes after almost a year of tasting panels and regional heats resulting in the best beers from across the UK being invited to compete at the Great British Beer Festival, held in London, which runs until Saturday, August 12.
Triple Chocoholic picked up its award on Tuesday.
Ewen Gordon, Saltaire Brewery’s managing director, said: “It is our biggest winner.
“It is just a bit different and is very popular.
“It’s great that it has won another award.”
