PLANS have been submitted for apartments in part of a Grade II listed mansion house in Bingley.

A proposal for two apartments in the former coach house building, which adjoins the St Ives Mansion House, in Harden, have been submitted to Bradford Council by Shay Capital.

The company’s proposals also include plans for an additional 18 apartments in the vacant mansion house itself, which have yet to be submitted to the Council, but are undergoing a pre-application enquiry.

The plans are for a mix of two and three-bedroom

luxury apartments.

St Ives Mansion House was used as a specialist care home for disabled people until April 2016.

A total of 28 residents at the St Ives Disabled Care Centre were moved out after Elder Homes Bingley Ltd, which leased the property, was placed into administration.

Bradford Council, who own the freehold, offered a long-lease for sale which was bought by Guiseley-based Shay Capital in September last year.

Listed building consent for exterior and interior alterations to the coach house, which dates back to the mid to late 17th century, have also been submitted.

The proposals have been backed by the Friends of St Ives Group, who have been consulted about the developer’s plans.

Friends chairman Pam Laking said they supported the application as the mansion house would be “taken care of”.

“Shay Capital have talked to us throughout about what they are doing,” she said.

“It is a key and important building in St Ives, as is the coach house.

“The mansion house had been left in a dreadful state. They want to do it carefully.

“We think it will be really nice to have a lot of people living in St Ives again.”

Philip Kane, main shareholder at Shay Capital, said: “The Friends Group have been fully supportive of the work we have been doing.

“The building has suffered over the last few years and there is also a lot of work to be done on the landscape.

“There is a lot of fantastic history in the building. We are bringing the life back to it.”

The development also includes the refurbishment of six cottages, also on the grounds, which will be completed this month.
