CONCERN has been raised over a bar's staging of "bottomless” two-hour drinking sessions.

The Potting Shed in Main Street, Bingley, has started a promotion it calls the Bottomless Brunch on the last Saturday of the month.

For a fixed price, customers are given the option of choosing one item from the pub’s brunch menu and unlimited selected drinks, with the choice of Prosecco, Bloody Marys and pints of lager.

The sessions are held from 11am to 1pm and from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Councillor David Heseltine (Con, Bingley) said he hoped other bars in the town do not follow suit.

He said: “We don’t want it to be like Brits abroad. We don’t want Bingley to end up like Faliraki, with binge drinking crawls and stag dos.

“We try to encourage responsible drinking, but things like this don’t help.

“It needs to be watched and make sure that it does not turn into a binge culture.

“If events like this become more commonplace in Bingley, I will become a lot more concerned. It will have to be closely monitored.”

Dr Sulleman Moreea, consultant gastroenterologist/hepatologist at Bradford Royal Infirmary, said: “I would urge people to show restraint in the amount they drink and eat.

"Perhaps the pub should give people notes saying how much they should drink and to do it in moderation?

“The event should come with a word of warning to drink in moderation and to not overdo it.”

Promotion for the event on the Potting Shed's website says it is a carefully-managed and levels of alcohol consumption will be supervised.

Water is also given to those who sign up and food must be ordered as part of the deal.

It states that alcohol must be consumed responsibly and that anyone who is obviously under the influence of alcohol/drunk will not be served further alcoholic drinks.

It adds drunkenness and anti-social behaviour will not be permitted.

Jade Renner, operations manager for Potting Shed Trading Limited, said the first event held last Saturday, was incident-free and attracted families.

She said: “Everyone who comes has to order drinks at the bar. It is not self-service.

“It was a really good atmosphere for the first event. It is completely different to what people are concerned about.”
