BRADFORD City fans have been given the chance to play as their football heroes at a fundraising video game tournament.

Wilsden Bantams, a Bradford City supporters’ group, is looking for players to enter its FIFA 17 event next month.

The 32-player tournament will take place on a number of dates between Tuesday, August 15, and Thursday, August 31, at The Villager pub, Peel Street, Wilsden.

The knock-out event kicks off on Tuesday, August 15, followed by further sessions on Thursday, August 17 and Sunday, August 20, with five games played on each night, all between 7pm and 9pm.

The second knock-out stage will be held at the pub on Tuesday, August 22, and Thursday, August 24, both between 7pm and 9pm. The tournament’s quarter-final and semi-finals will both take place on Sunday, August 27, between 7pm and 9pm.

Then the remaining two players will battle it out at the final, again held at the pub, on Thursday, August 31, from 7.45pm.

The final will also include appearances by two unnamed Bradford City players and all of the tournament’s participants are invited to attend.

The tournament’s winner will be invited to attend City’s player-of-the-season awards event next May, while the runner-up will receive a signed Bradford City football.

All matches will last for 20 minutes, of ten minutes each half.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the Wilsden Bantams’ charity fund for the season, which will be shared out between a number of charities including the University of Bradford’s Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU), Liam’s Smiles, named after City goalkeeper Colin Doyle’s son who was struck down by meningitis, and the One in a Million.

Chris Moralee, Wilsden Bantams chairman, said players can enter as any team they want and he hopes the event will raise at least £800.

He said: “This is the first time we have done this.

“I will be playing as Bradford City, while other people who have entered have already gone for Barcelona or Spain. But people can play as any team they want; an international or club side.

“We could also have more than one person playing as a team. We could have Bradford City v Bradford City.

“People can also come along and watch the games at any of the nights too.

“People of any age can enter, but as it’s being held in a pub, children aged under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

“Wilsden Bantams are very much a family-orientated club and we wanted to do something that appeals to children as well as adults.

“We will also be doing the tournament draws on Facebook Live.”
