TIME is ticking after 40 years on a Victorian clock in the centre of Bingley following a £6,000 restoration project.

A large clock on the privately-owned Old Library building in Main Street, which dates back to 1864, had been stopped at noon for a number of years, leaving any residents without a watch unable to tell the time.

A resident, Jack Bailey, contacted Bingley Town Council to ask it if they could get the clock restored. One of its councillors, Andrew Quarrie, then contacted the building’s owners, who have not been identified.

The week-long restoration project, which included the clock being electrified, earlier this month.

Bingley Town Council was unable to provide funds for the project, but the work was instead partly met by the clock’s owners and community groups who have already contributed include Bingley Historical Society and Eldwick Village Society.

Now despite the restoration work being completed, cllr Quarrie has launched a campaign to raise £1,500 of the total funds for the work.
