A MAN who risked his own life to race across train tracks to save that of an injured fellow passenger has received police recognition for his bravery.
Luke Brewster, 33, of Windhill, jumped down onto the tracks at Shipley Railway Station and ran across them to help a badly hurt man. He remembered life-saving skills learned as a boy to check and clear the man’s airways before starting chest compressions.
Mr Brewster said he found out the man’s name from his wallet so he could talk to him while using bandages from a first aid kit from the Skipton-bound train to try and stop the man’s bleeding, in the incident on July 10 last year.
Now, a year on, Mr Brewster was commended at an British Transport Police event held in Leeds today.
On his certificate, Chief Superintendent Allan Gregory South West, Wales, Midlands and the North, wrote he was commended for his selfless act and public-spirited actions.
Mr Brewster said: “It feels amazing and really nice.
“It was great to receive this a year later.”
