THE family of a teenager who died after an accident with a car on her way home from an A-level exam have helped others by donating her organs.

Kate Whalley, 18, was walking along the A660 near Bar House Row in Pool-in-Wharfedale when she was struck by a black Ford Fiesta ST at about 4.40pm on Thursday, June 22.

Kate, of Pool-in-Wharfedale, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where she died on Saturday, June 24, after life support was withdrawn.

Her step-mum Janie Whalley-McGrellis said on Facebook: “She had made the decision to be an organ donor and held on long enough for the donor specialists to arrive. She touched so many hearts.”

Kate's family are being supported by a police family liaison officer and officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team at West Yorkshire Police are continuing inquiries into the incident.

And police have asked for anyone who saw the car before the incident to come forward to help with their investigation.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 22-year-old Harrogate man was arrested and released under investigation.

Sergeant Mathew Tunney, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "We are still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the black Ford Fiesta ST, which is believed to have travelled from Ilkley, at any point on its journey to the scene of the collision.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage that may have captured either the incident itself or the movements of the Fiesta in the time leading up to the collision."

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 quoting log number 1347 of June 22.
